PM Modi and Guyana President Irfaan Ali planted a sapling in Georgetown, symbolizing a global embrace of environmental consciousness campaign, which had seen massive participation across the country since its launch on World Environment Day on June 5 this year. The initiative encouraged people to plant a sapling as a tribute to their mothers, intertwining the themes of environmental care with the universal bond of maternal love.
"This act wasn't just about environmentalism but also about fostering a connection between nations through shared values of respect for nature and motherhood," said a senior functionary. Later in a post on X, PM Modi said, "A shared commitment to sustainability ! In a very special gesture, the President of Guyana and my friend, Dr. Irfaan Ali, took part in the ‘ek ped maa ke naam’ (a tree for Mother) movement by planting a tree with his grandmother and mother-in-law.
