ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- The Hannibal Pirate Cross Country teams competed Saturday at McNair Park in St.
Charles in the Class 4 District 3 race. McNair Park consists of four loops around the southeast corner of the park with about a 1,000-meter finish on the northwest side. Weather conditions were favorable for the races, although the sun did get on the warmer side of things when the Class 4 boys toed the line.
The top 30 individuals and top four teams would advance to the state championship meet. There were four total races at McNair Saturday as the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) combines the two larger classes for district cross country competition. Up first at 9 a.
m. were the Class 5 girls. Father Tolton Catholic out of Columbia dominated the race.
Individual champion Elyse Wilmes led the Trailblazers to a first place team finish. Second was Columbia Rock Bridge, followed by Cor Jesu Academy of St. Louis and finally Wentzville Liberty.
The Class 5 boys were next up at 9:45. The Rock Bridge boys, led by individual champion Luke Sievers won by almost a 50 point margin over second place Wentzville Liberty. Finishing third as a team was Ft.
Zumwalt West followed by Columbia Hickman. Up first for Class 4 at 11:30 a.m.
were the varsity girls. Putting their stamp on a district championship was Parkway Central. All seven girls from Parkway Central individually qualified for the state meet.
