Pink and pearls stole the show as dozens of ladies brought their fashion A-game to the 2024 Fashions on the Field competition at Hannans Handicap day on Wednesday. With a lace-decked dress and pearl-embellished shoes, Kellie Smart won the top prize at the fashion event during the Kalgoorlie-Boulder Racing Club’s Ladies Day meeting on Wednesday afternoon. Former Kalgoorlie-Boulder local Ms Smart was convinced by her friend to enter the competition.

“I follow all the Fashions on Field Instagram pages, I love it. I never thought I’d be brave enough to walk on stage,” she said. “My friend talked me into it today, she pushed me to do so I’m really glad that she did.

” For Ms Smart pink was the obvious choice — picking her Leo Lin dress before having the matching millinery specially made. “I got in touch with a lady in Cairns I was familiar with . .

. and I told her ‘my dress is the colour of a musk stick so whatever you can come up with’,” she said. “This is what she introduced to me so I’m very happy.

” Women held on to their hats, not letting the windy day stop them as they strutted their stuff on the catwalk, competing for cash and vouchers from local businesses. Fashionistas were judged based on their confidence on the catwalk along with how well their outfit suited current spring racing season trends. Eva Mulveney was the Fashions on the Field first runner-up, and also walked home with the best local ladies wear prize.

The second runner-up was Dawn.
