Friday, November 29, 2024 The Pennsylvania Convention Center, overseen by the leading venue and live-events company ASM Global, has secured the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) v4.1 O+M: Existing Buildings Silver certification. This accolade follows its earlier achievement of the LEED Gold certification for New Construction in 2011.

The facility’s sustained dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship played a key role in its selection as the venue for the esteemed 2024 Greenbuild International Conference & Expo, a major global assembly of green building professionals, held from November 12 to 15. In collaboration with event organizers, the Center aimed to meet sustainability goals focusing on energy and waste management throughout the event lifecycle. LEED certifications are pivotal in venue selection for organizations aiming to align with sustainable development principles and cater to the expectations of a new generation seeking environmentally responsible events.

The Center has implemented rigorous measures in energy, water, and waste management, enhancing the quality of the environment within the facility. Key initiatives include boosting its renewable energy certificate purchases to cover 50% of its total energy use, striving for a 50% waste diversion rate, and cutting down on single-use plastics, enabling it to reach these significant sustainability milestones. In addition, the Center earned the Events Industry Council (EIC) Sustai.
