Janet Ogundepo The National Chairman of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria, Ambrose Ezeh, on Wednesday stated that pharmacists remained at the forefront of delivering innovative, patient-centred care to patients. He corrected the notion that pharmacists were just the dispensers of medicine, asserting that the practitioners were frontline workers, healthcare providers, educators, researchers, and advocates. The ACPN National Chairman made these submissions in a statement exclusively sent to PUNCH Healthwise to commemorate the World Pharmacists Day 2024 on Wednesday.

The WPD, organised by the International Pharmaceutical Federation, is commemorated on September 25 every year to recognise the crucial role of pharmacists in ensuring healthier communities. To celebrate this year’s WPD, with the theme, “Pharmacists: meeting Global Health Needs,” the World Health Organisation stated that pharmacists were often the first point of contact for health advice and primary health care. Speaking further, Ezeh called for more empowerment for pharmacists to ensure their skills, knowledge and dedication helped build healthier and more resilient communities across the globe.
