Angela Onwuzoo Pharmaceutical stakeholders under the aegis of the Federation of Nigerian Pharmaceutical Industry Associations have donated essential medicines and medical supplies to the victims of devastating floods that ravaged some communities in Borno State recently. FeNPIA is the umbrella body for all pharmaceutical associations in Nigeria PUNCH Healthwise reports that Maiduguri, the Borno capital was flooded last month following the collapse of the Alau Dam, a critical infrastructure designed to regulate water flow and provide irrigation and drinking water. According to the National Emergency Management Agency, over 70 per cent of Maiduguri was submerged by the fast-moving water, displacing over a million residents and resulting in over 30 casualties.

The stakeholders said the materials would be distributed in coordination with the state government and other humanitarian agencies to ensure effective and timely delivery to those in need. The pharmacists said the devastating floods further exacerbated the threat of disease outbreaks in overcrowded Internally Displaced Persons Camps, where access to necessities like food, shelter, and healthcare remains scarce. FeNPIA leadership said there was a dire need to step in to complement the government’s efforts by providing medical supplies.
