The small but growing group, who fear the jury never really heard her case, think this may be about to happen.

Whether that trial takes place quickly in the courts or slowly but relentlessly in the hurly burly of media and political debate, is still not clear. But what is certain is that it is going to be very hard fought. As few will have forgotten, after her gruelling and lengthy trials, Ms Letby, a neonatal nurse at the Countess of Chester Hospital, has been convicted of murdering seven infants and attempting the murder of seven others between June 2015 and June 2016.



As a result, she has been sentenced to stay in prison until she dies. Many still believe this to have been just. But a significant number of doctors, statisticians and other experts are worried that the verdicts are unsafe – and they are not shutting up.

Rather the contrary. After months, during which the verdict has been widely questioned, yesterday saw the first professional attack on the court'.
