A woman accused of shoplifting in Irvine, California, took an unusual route to evade capture on August 14, squeezing into the trunk of a Tesla in a mall parking lot before being discovered and arrested by police, the Police Department said. Police said they were alerted to a theft at Sephora involving $600 worth of beauty products. When loss prevention officers lost sight of the suspect, a witness pointed them to a white Tesla where they had seen her enter the trunk.
Police said they found 35-year-old Emely Yanagida of San Marcos hiding inside. They used the hashtag “#peekaboo” on their post. Yanagida was arrested, and a court date has yet to be set, reported.
