JOHNSTON COUNTY, Okla. (KTEN) — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating after a woman's body was found early Thursday along a Johnston County highway. OHP Lt.

Scott Hampton said the initial alert went out at 4:30 a.m. on US 377 at Prairie Road, about seven miles north of Tishomingo.

"We located the victim's vehicle further north of the highway where it had ran through a fence," explained Johnston County Sheriff Gary Dodd. "We believe that she was traveling southbound on 377 when she was involved in her own single accident where she went through a fence, and then she had exited her vehicle and was walking on the roadway back towards Tishomingo when she was struck." The sheriff said both lanes of the highway were closed to traffic and motorists were urged to avoid the area.

The victim's identity has not been released. The OHP traffic homicide unit is leading the investigation..
