Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation recently conducted a survey and found at least 1,312 specially abled beneficiaries of various schemes either provided incomplete addresses or changed residence and did not update the same with the civic body’s social welfare department. “During the survey between Dec 2023 and March 2024, teams visited the addresses, however, we found that many of them were either incomplete or wrong,” a PCMC official said. “Earlier, we appealed to people to approach the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) with necessary documents, but nobody came forward.

Now, they would be given two weeks to submit the necessary documents to continue with the benefits. Otherwise, their names would be removed,” a PCMC official said. Additionally, the contact numbers provided by most of these beneficiaries were not reachable.

“As a result, the civic officials could not reach out to them for the annual survey under which they were provided with ‘Life Certificate’,” the officials said. Another senior official from PCMC said there were over 8,000 differently abled people registered with the civic body and they were taking benefits of over 14 different schemes. The differently abled beneficiaries were required to obtain a ‘Life Certificate’ each year to ensure that the benefits such as financial assistance would not be given to someone else if the applicant was deceased.
