Pune: An advisory has been issued by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation ( PCMC ) for citizens on Thursday to not fall prey to fake messages about water disconnections in the city. The advisory followed complaints that were raised by several citizens who received messages asking them to pay for water tax to avoid disconnection of water supply. A senior official from the PCMC tax department denied any such action or message being sent by the civic body deeming the messages being circulated among the citizens as fake and likely as an attempt by fraudsters to extort money from people.
"We have advised citizens to not make payments to anyone sending them such messages. Besides, we are also forwarding this matter to the Pimpri Chinchwad police for further action," he said. He further said the messages were being sent from the same number as per the complaints the civic body tax department has received so far and the fraudster is projecting himself as some Rakesh Mishra, a PCMC officer.
