Pune: NCP (SCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Monday called Prime Minister Narendra Modi 's leadership detrimental to equality in the country. Pawar said, "People realised that Modi and his party do not believe in the Constitution. Hence, they did not give him a full mandate in the Lok Sabha election .
" He was addressing his supporters at a public rally in Pune on Monday. "Modi's leadership is a challenge for the country. His thought is against the idea of equality which Babasaheb Ambedkar gave through a strong Constitution.
Modi and his party want to attack the same Constitution which provides that equality," Pawar said. During the Lok Sabha election, BJP and its allies carried out a '400 Paar' campaign but fell short. Referring to the campaign, Pawar on Monday said, "If a govt wants to pass any bill, they can do it with 300 seats in Lok Sabha.
However, the BJP's aim was to change the Constitution for which 300 seats were not enough, they wanted 400 seats. However, people decided to not give a full mandate to a party which does not believe in the Constitution." In his speech, Pawar said the Constitution keeps the country stable.
"The Constitutions of Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka were attacked and those countries faced turmoil. Despite several ups and downs, we have not faced anarchy, thanks to the Constitution which kept parliamentary democracy stable," the NCP (SCP) chief said.
