Pune: NCP (SCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Friday, addressing a public rally in Pune, criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for targeting the Gandhi family during his poll rallies in Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana. Pawar said that he would have appreciated it if PM Modi spoke about development, inflation, or maintaining law and order during his rallies. However, he criticised three generations of the Gandhi family—Nehru, Rajiv, and Indira Gandhi—despite two of them having sacrificed their lives for the country.

"Jawaharlal Nehru spent 12 years of his life in jail for the independence of this country. Indira Gandhi taught a lesson to Pakistan by liberating Bangladesh. She sent a message to the world that India wants to be friends with everyone, but if anyone messes with us, we will teach them a lesson.
