In light of Matthew Slater’s retirement, the New England Patriots trusted Brenden Schooler to take over as their new special teams leader. Five games into the season, he is looking that part. Look no further than Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins : in the second quarter, the 2022 undrafted free agent pickup blocked a Jake Bailey punt — in quite spectacular fashion, one might add.

Despite getting spun around on his rush attempt, Schooler still managed to get his hands up and deflect the kick. Bailey recovered, but the Patriots ended up taking over in prime field position at the Miami 23-yard line. Unfortunately, their offense could not do much with its starting spot and the Patriots had to settle for a 33-yard field goal that was missed to the right.
