Article content Connor McDavid is absolutely electric on the ice when he gets the puck, but he has long had the reputation of being, well, boring off the ice. The Edmonton Oilers star isn’t known for having any sort of boisterous personality and any comments he makes to the media are as well chosen as his setup passes to teammates. But it turns out that McDavid sure can cut loose when he wants to.

In a video posted on TikTok last week that has been recirculating on other social media, the three-time Hart Trophy winner was seen having a blast during an afterparty for his wedding this summer. McDavid is shown on top of teammate Zach Hyman’s shoulders, dancing with another pair of partygoers. The original clip, which has since been taken down, was posted by Canadian DJ duo Lord Luxury.

In a post of the video on X, user @PoolNuge3 wrote “Connor McDavid finally beating the ‘boring hockey guy’ allegations.” Users on social media were quick to crack jokes about the usually staid star cutting loose. “It’s usually McDavid carrying the rest of the oilers on his shoulders.

..” one user wrote.

“How did they drink their alcohol since there wasn’t a cup in sight?” another asked. McDavid and interior designer Lauren Kyle tied the knot in Ontario last month on Old Woman Island, a 16-acre island on Lake Muskoka. Kyle told Vogue Australia that Muskoka is special to the couple because it’s where they got engaged.

McDavid has kept a very private life off the ice, limiting the amount of personal posts on his Instagram account. He also has been seen as awkward in public interactions. Earlier this year during the Oilers playoff run, a group of fans accosted the couple as they loaded their car with beer.

The viral clip showed three fans, two of which are sporting Oilers jerseys, getting up close with McDavid while he walks from the store to his car. The fan who is filming the video, selfie-style, pats the superstar on the back before asking for and going in for a hug — seemingly without the Oilers superstar’s go-ahead. On the ice, however, no one can touch McDavid.

Since entering the NHL in 2015, he has racked up 335 goals and 982 points in 645 regular-season games. He’s a seven-time all-star, but the most recent addition to his silverware cabinet is an unfortunate one: He won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP despite his Oilers losing in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final to the Florida Panthers this year..
