The section between Mitcham's Corner and Gilbert Road has been completed, while some smaller stretches along Milton Road are also now finished. The scheme has been organised by the Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP) with aims to improve transport options in Cambridge.

Works started in November 2022 and are estimated to cost around £24million once complete. Councillor Elisa Meschini, chair of the GCP board, said all major works are due to be completed by the end of September. She said: "We're on time, well on budget, which is a fabulous achievement.

She added: "Finally, we're going to have facilities that we can actually use comfortably – it's going to be a very easy cycle up and down." The scheme includes a Copenhagen-style crossing at Ramsden Square which emphasises the right of way for pedestrians and cyclists at the junction.

It will also include a new CYCLOPS junction which separates pedestrians and cyclists from vehicles. Some works on Milton Road are ongoing (Image: Cait Findlay/CambridgeshireLive) Cllr Meschini said the CYCLOPS junction currently looks "a bit ugly" due to orange covers and temporary traffic lights. She added: "I'm confident that once the traffic lights are operational it will be very convenient.

"They don't look like it now but they will do when you're using them." She said it will be 'straightforward' to use, comparing it to the existing CYCLOPS junction on Histon Road . Proposed changes to parking in the Milton Road area are set to be discussed at the Cambridge City Joint Area Committee on Monday (July 29).

Residents in the area have previously shared concerns about the proposals with CambridgeshireLive , with some saying plans for their street "do not make sense" . Story Saved You can find this story in My Bookmarks. Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.
