Spain captured the gold medal in the Olympic men's football tournament on Friday with a thrilling 5-3 victory over France in extra time. Substitute Sergio Camello emerged as the hero by scoring two crucial goals, helping Spain secure their first Olympic men's football title since 1992. The final at Parc des Princes was filled with drama and excitement, as both teams were tied 3-3 at the end of regular time.

France had initially taken the lead through Enzo Millot in the 12th minute. However, Spain quickly responded with Fermin Lopez equalizing in the 18th minute and adding another goal in the 25th minute. Alex Baena extended Spain's lead to 3-1 with a superb free-kick just before the half-hour mark.

France staged a remarkable comeback with Maghnes Akliouche scoring in the 79th minute. A stoppage-time penalty converted by Jean-Philippe Mateta, the tournament's top scorer, sent the match into extra time. "It is something beautiful, but above all, I'm happy for the players, for the way they achieved the win," Spain coach Santi Denia was quoted as saying by Reuters after the match.

"It was an amazing match against a high-level French team. I'm proud also of the model of play we represent." As the match moved into extra time, both teams pushed hard for a winner.

Despite the momentum favoring France, it was Spain's Camello who delivered. He first lobbed the ball over French goalkeeper Restes, restoring Spain's lead. Later, he sealed the victory with a composed finish following a crucial save by Restes.

"(Camello) has been a hard worker since day one, he deserved his double," Alex Baena said in praise of his teammate. "He knew he was going to be a substitute but ended up being the most important player for us and found his reward." Reflecting on the victory, Baena added, "I wish the summer never ends.

I'm so happy I get to make history with Spain. To win, you have to suffer, especially against France in France." Spain's journey through the tournament showcased their resilience and determination.

Despite France's strong performance and intense home crowd support, Spain managed to overcome adversity and achieve Olympic glory. Coach Santi Denia expressed his pride not only in the players but also in the Spanish style of play that was on display. The victory at Parc des Princes highlighted a well-executed game plan and clinical finishing by the Spanish team, especially during the extra time when Camello emerged as the hero.

France had their share of moments in the game and displayed formidable skill. Enzo Millot's early goal and Jean-Philippe Mateta's coolly converted penalty in stoppage time were significant highlights. Despite their efforts, it was Spain's night, thanks to Camello's decisive goals.

The victory is a significant moment for Spain, as it marks their first Olympic men's football title in over two decades and underscores the talent and promise of their current squad..
