Friday, August 16, 2024 On Friday, the city of Salamiyah in western Syria was rocked by a 4.8 magnitude earthquake, leaving 17 people injured. The tremor, which occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles), was strong enough to be felt not only in Syria but also in neighboring Lebanon, according to reports from the Syrian state news agency, SANA.

The quake triggered widespread panic among residents as they scrambled for safety. Fortunately, despite the injuries, no casualties were reported. The German Research Centre for Geosciences confirmed the magnitude and depth of the earthquake, emphasizing its impact on the region.



This seismic event is a reminder of the region’s vulnerability to natural disasters, underscoring the need for continued preparedness and response measures. The affected individuals are currently receiving medical attention, and local authorities are assessing the damage caused by the quake..
