Friday, August 23, 2024 Panama City-Bay County Airport and Industrial District has elected Mark Sheldon as its new Board Chair, taking over the leadership of Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP). Sheldon succeeds Holly K. Melzer, who made history as the first woman to serve in this role.

Melzer’s two-year tenure was marked by significant achievements, including overseeing major expansions and construction projects at the airport. She also played a key role in bringing Project Maple to fruition, a development that utilized a Triumph Grant to welcome Premier Aviation, a leading aviation maintenance and repair company, to the region. Melzer will continue her involvement with the airport as she remains on the Board.



Sheldon, formerly the Board’s Vice Chair, brings extensive knowledge of the region’s economic landscape and community needs to his new role. His leadership will focus on fostering economic growth and diversification through strategic airport development. Additionally, Sheldon aims to enhance the travel experience for passengers, ensuring that Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport maintains its reputation for delivering exceptional service.

” The Panama City-Bay County Airport and Industrial District is tasked with overseeing and fostering industrial, commercial, and economic development within the district, primarily through airport-related projects. The District is governed by a seven-member board, with each member serving a four-year term, limited to two terms. Board appointments are made by various local governing bodies: two members are appointed by the Panama City Commission, two by the Bay County Board of Commissioners, two by the Panama City Beach City Council, and one by the Walton County Board of Commissioners.

Mark Sheldon, the newly elected Board Chair, brings a wealth of experience to the position. He previously served as the Mayor of Panama City Beach and is currently the Chief Operating Officer and Managing Member of PCB Entertainment, LLC, and R&M Entertainment, LLC. In these roles, Sheldon manages large-scale music festivals, including the highly popular Gulf Coast Jam.

His deep commitment to the community is evident through his participation on several local boards, and he is also active in his personal life, enjoying the opportunity to coach his two children’s sports teams..
