We've all received presents we don't quite love, but it may pay to hold on to them anyway...

even if you have to keep them hidden in a cupboard for decades. In episode of Antiques Roadshow , a Newcastle local explained she was gifted two candlesticks by her husband's grandmother for their engagement. Stream episodes of Antiques Roadshow for free on 9Now.



 "Do you love them and can't live without them?" queried silver expert Duncan Campbell. "No!" the woman replied with a laugh. She was diplomatic as she explained that she didn't "hate" them, but she had kept them out of sight for years.

READ MORE: Man stunned as he discovers he owns the first ever Doctor Who script Duncan said despite her not liking them, the candlesticks were made by one of the major silversmiths in England, which the owner was surprised by.

"They're made by a man called AE Jones, who started in about 1904 and was a major force in arts and crafts silversmithing, mostly from a design point of view but also manufacturing," he explained. On the bottom, the candlesticks were dated as being made in 1919. "You might not like them all that much, but let me tell you, there are lots of people around that do," Duncan said.
