Pune: Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange said he had received more than 800 applications from aspirants wishing to contest polls for him in the upcoming assembly elections. He has appealed that his supporters reach Antarwali Sarati village in Jalna on Aug 29, when he would address a gathering. He was expected to announce his decision on fielding candidates .
“It is the same village from where my agitation started. It is soon going to be one year since then. I would like my supporters to come to Antarwali Sarati village.
We will hold discussions about how to take the agitation forward and pressure the govt to fulfill demands,” he said. Jarange’s agitation had impacted the LS polls. Many Mahayuti candidates faced the brunt and some even saw defeat.
Now, the activist has announced that he would consult his supporters and take a call on fielding his own candidates in the assembly elections to ensure defeat of candidates not supportive of Maratha quota. He has invited applications from people who wish to contest the assembly polls with his support. “Most of those interested are from western Maharashtra, and from Marathwada and Vidarbha too.
The least interest evinced is from Mumbai. At present, our team is scrutinising all applications. I will announce soon whether or not I will field candidates for the elections,” Jarange said.
