Prayagraj: Over 54 lakh students have registered to appear for the UP Board 's High School and Intermediate examination-2025. Registration for the current session ended on Sept 25, by which time 54,38,597 students had registered for the two exams. Of these, 27,40,151 are for High School and 26,98,446 for Intermediate exams from over 27,000 affiliated schools.
However, compared to the 2024 UP Board exams , which had 55,25,342 registered students, the number of candidates for 2025 has decreased by 86,745. The high school registrations have seen a decline of 2,07,184 while intermediate registrations have increased by 1,20,439. As the board prepares for the exams scheduled in Feb 2025, the focus is currently on identifying schools to serve as examination centres.
According to the centre determination policy sent by UP Board secretary Bhagwati Singh to the district inspectors of schools (DIoSes), each centre can accommodate a maximum of 2,000 students. This is an increase from the previous year's limit of 1,200 students per centre. The minimum number of students at any examination centre remains unchanged at 250.
It is anticipated that this change will reduce the number of examination centres and facilitate better monitoring of exams. In a separate development, 1,56,643 students from Uttar Pradesh have applied for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) 2025-26. Aligarh has the highest number of applicants at 9,314 while Prayagraj has 4,979 students who have filled.
