Pune: Over 300 villages in Ratnagiri , Pune, and Satara districts will undergo landslide mitigation measures as part of a safety initiative, state disaster management officials said. The plan, covering 483 villages in 11 districts, awaits chief minister Eknath Shinde’s approval in the upcoming State Disaster Management Authority meeting. The villages were identified by Geological Survey of India.
Officials said the authority is likely to clear the proposal quickly in the wake of the Wayanad landslide. Ratnagiri tops the list with 139 villages, followed by Pune’s 94 and Satara’s 88. The three districts account for nearly two-thirds of the targeted locations for mitigation works.
A Rs 700-crore proposal was put up last month. Besides these, the state rehabilitation authority has suggested relocation of 18 villages in Raigad, two in Pune and one in Ratnagiri. Retaining walls, reducing slopes and drainage control are among the proposed measures to prevent landslides.
Last month, the executive committee of the state disaster management put out the proposal for the 483 villages and recommended immediate landslide mitigation measures. A senior official from the rehabilitation department said that the proposal clearly states that the villages have to be shifted out of these locations to avoid any tragedy. “Raigad district has 18 villages which include Mauje Parmachi, Mauje Kamathi, and Mauje Tolkhurd covering Mahad, Poladpur, and Mankhurd talukas.
In Pune, Mauje Padarwadi from Khed and Mauje Kondri, Dhanawali, and Mauje Ghutke from Bhor are at-risk. From Ratnagiri, Mauje Dabhol from Dapoli has to be relocated immediately,” the official said.
