Over 200 vulnerable people have been helped in a town by night safety marshals. The Eastbourne team was set up at the start of the year to patrol the town from 8pm until 4am on Friday and Saturday nights. In partnership with Sussex Police, the team visits night-time venues and aims to help keep people safe when out and about in the dark.

READ MORE: Dad reunited with paramedics who saved his life Since January, the team have helped over 135 vulnerable women and over 60 vulnerable men by reconnecting them with their friends and family, helping them get home safely or contacting the police if necessary. The team has also helped with around 30 medical emergencies and has resolved more than 30 incidents of public disorder. They also provide support to Street Pastors, Security Industry Authority (SIA) door staff at licensed premises and members of the Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP).



Inspector Sarah Taylor, from Eastbourne’s Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "We continue to extend our thanks to the team of Night Safety Marshals for their support in helping to protect our community from violence and crime , particularly during the night-time economy and over the weekends. "Everybody has the right to enjoy a night out and Eastbourne is, and will continue to be, a safe place to do this. "We already have a range of measures in place to support this work, including dedicated cars, targeted patrols, and close partnership working with licensed premises to promote other safe.
