Pune: The municipal scholarships of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for meritorious students have received over 13,000 applications. The civic administration offers scholarships of Rs 15,000 and Rs 25,000 to students of SSC and HSC, respectively. PMC recorded 9,653 applications from Std X students under the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad scheme and 3,236 applications from Std XII students.
"Students are encouraged to pursue further education using these funds. The applications were sought online," said Nitin Udas, head of PMC's urban community development department. The applications for the scholarship are called in Sept then document scrutinisation takes place.
The scholarships are awarded in December and January. "The civic administration gave an extension to the scholarship deadline. Many students were not able to complete the process at the time.
The extension helped in increasing the number of applications," said a senior official of PMC..
