Pune: Many flyers using the city airport's new terminal building have already been complaining about the high prices of food and beverages sold in F&B kiosks here. To counter this, airport authorities said that a new outlet selling beverages at low prices will soon be opened at the facility. Speaking to TOI about the prohibitive pricing, flyer Girish Joshi, who was travelling to Delhi earlier this month, said he bought a small cup of black coffee for Rs180 at the new terminal.
"It was the cup size we locally call ‘cutting' — extremely tiny. How can that cost so much? This is loot," he said. Around the same time, Bavdhan resident Karan Jog bought a small packet of bhel from one of the kiosks for Rs200.
"Lounges have not opened in the building and the food prices are just really high. The authorities need to do something about it. Govt has always been claiming that they want to make flying affordable for all economic sections," he asserted.
Officials claimed plans are afoot for a new outlet. "A kiosk selling tea, coffee and water at very affordable prices will soon come up at the airport. The old building had one such stall.
With this, refreshments will be available to all without pinching the pocket," Pune airport director Santosh Dhoke told TOI. On Sept 13, former Union finance minister P Chidambaram had flagged an outlet in Kolkata airport for selling tea at Rs340. "I just discovered that tea, made of hot water and a tea bag, costs Rs340 in Kolkata airport.
