Oregon State University-Cascades will host a First Peoples celebration with the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs 1 p.m. to 6 p.
m. Saturday, Oct. 12, on the university campus.
Aside from the dinner, the event is free to the public. Activities will include an opening ceremony and invocation, demonstrations of traditional tribal crafts and artistry by Native artists and a showcase of traditional regalia and Native dancing, which will be narrated with descriptions of ceremonial Native fashions. There will also be a round dance with the Black Lodge Singers, a Native American Grammy-nominated drum group.
Representatives from the Museum at Warm Springs and the High Desert Museum, as well as members of the Warm Springs Natural Resources Department and the Warm Springs Community Action Team, will be available to discuss their work. Dinner includes salmon, elk, dried corn and huckleberries. It will take place at 6 p.
