STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Staten Islanders can expect to see scattered thunderstorms in the forecast for the next few days before the sun comes out for the weekend.

National Weather Service (NWS) meteorologist Bill Goodman said the radar indicates Staten Island should be in the clear until later Monday, as most of the storms are currently north, near Bergen and Rochester counties. Between 11 p.m.



and 5 a.m., residents can expect close to a 70% chance of showers and thunderstorms, with likely an inch of rain, said Goodman.

“More organized showers will come into the area and take off on Tuesday and last through Thursday,” Goodman said. Staten Island will have a chance of showers with thunderstorms Tuesday after 11 a.m.

and again around 8 p.m. “Staten Island will definitely see more rain Tuesday night with a round of showers throughout the night and linger into Wednesday,” Goodman said.

“There will be locally heavy rain, with thunderstorms dropping close to an inch and inch and a half of rain.” Goodman also stated that by daytime Wednesday, another round of showers will appear and “dump 1 to 1.5 inches of rain, with some areas seeing 2 to 3 inches of rainfall.

” Goodman expressed that much of the metropolitan and northern Jersey areas will see showers for most of the day on Wednesday. According to the NWS, thunderstorms are expected before 2 p.m.

on Wednesday, with chances of showers after 2 p.m. By nighttime, showers are likely between 8 p.

m. and 2 a.m.

“Thursday afternoon is the one where Staten Island will see between 60 to 70% chance of rainstorms throughout the entire afternoon,” said Goodman. “Then after that, we will see a dry weekend, which is good.” Most of the weekend, according to the NWS, looks mostly sunny with the highs around 86 degrees.
