Video grab of the shooters at victim Sukhchain Singh’s residence in Daburji village on Saturday NEW DELHI: Five people have been arrested in connection with the shooting of a US-based non-resident Indian ( NRI ), Sukhchain Singh, in Punjab 's Amritsar . The incident occurred at Singh's residence in the Daburji area on a Saturday morning, and it is believed to have stemmed from a rivalry between two families residing in the US who hired Indian shooters for the task, according to officials. Singh was shot by two assailants, and investigations are ongoing regarding financial transactions linked to the case.

Amritsar Commissioner of Police Ranjit Singh Dhillon said that the shooting was the result of mutual rivalry between two US-based families. “The firing incident occurred due to mutual rivalry between two families. Both families live in the US and they hired Indian shooters for the task.



The family who orchestrated the attack knew that the victim was in Punjab. It is only a matter of time till the shooters are arrested. Five people have been arrested so far,” he stated.

Dhillon further mentioned that authorities are probing the financial aspects of the case, particularly transactions from the US to India. The attack took place early in the morning when the assailants arrived at Singh’s home on a bike. They entered his residence under the guise of enquiring about the registration papers of his luxury car.

According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Harpal Singh, the attackers fired three shots, two of which hit Singh. “They fired three shots, two of which hit Singh. The attackers fled when the weapon jammed,” Harpal Singh said.

Singh’s wife, Amandeep Kaur, recounted the harrowing experience. “The children kept pleading to leave their father, but they came with an intention to kill him. They fled only when the weapon got jammed after three shots,” she shared.

The family, including two children and an elderly mother, was present during the attack. Commissioner Dhillon confirmed that Sukhchain Singh, who had been living in the US, had recently returned to Punjab and noted that Singh was immediately taken to the hospital after the shooting. He is now out of danger after receiving treatment for his injuries.

“Two men entered Singh’s residence on the pretext of enquiring about his car’s registration certificate and then started firing at him. A total of three men arrived at the residence. Two of them entered the residence and they fired at Sukchain.

Sukhchain Singh lives in America and he arrived in Punjab a month ago,” Dhillon said. The family suspects the involvement of Singh’s ex-wife’s relatives in orchestrating the attack. An FIR has been filed against five members of her family.

Singh’s father-in-law, Sukhdev Singh, voiced his concerns regarding the involvement of his ex-wife’s family. “They entered our residence and took Sukchain Singh inside at gunpoint..

. We have doubts regarding the involvement of Sukchain Singh’s ex-wife’s family members in this incident. Justice should be served,” he stated.

Dr. Krishnan Srinivasan, who treated Sukhchain Singh, provided an update on his condition, noting that despite arriving with severe bleeding, Singh is now stable and recovering from injuries sustained to his face and hand..
