Pune: BJP MLC Ram Shinde from Ahmednagar district has landed in a controversy after a video of him participating in a village fair with gangster Nilesh Ghaywal was posted on a social media platform. The purported video is from a village in Jamkhed tehsil in Ahmednagar district where Ghaywal is seen walking with Shinde at a fair organised on Nag Panchami last week. Ghaywal is from the same district and his gang is active in Pune.

In the past, Shiv Sena (UBT) had shared a photo of Ghaywal with chief minister Eknath Shinde to target Mahayuti. Now, the fresh video of the same gangster with the BJP MLC has surfaced which the opposition has pounced upon. Karjat-Jamkhed MLA from NCP (SCP) Rohit Pawar, who defeated Shinde in the 2019 assembly poll, has alleged that Mahayuti has been taking the help of goons during elections.

He said, "Ghaywal has MLC Shinde’s support. He is the same gangster who was seen with chief minister and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar. He even campaigned for Sunetra Pawar.

We have seen Mahayuti using goons to campaign of their candidates, but voters rejected them. Ram Shinde will get to see voters' reaction in the upcoming election." After the video went viral, Shinde claimed that he did not know that the person walking with him was Ghaywal.

“I had gone to the village to participate in a fair organised for Nag Panchami. There were several people who walked with me that day. I do not know all of them," he said.
