Bharatiya Janata Party 's MP Tejasvi Surya on Thursday claimed that the opposition tried to disrupt the proceedings of the joint parliamentary committee on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill meeting, physically and verbally threatened both the witness and the Chairperson, and tore up committee documents. BJP MP Surya wrote a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and said that such conduct cannot be taken lightly and requested to take disciplinary action against those responsible for this unruly and unparliamentary behaviour. In a letter, Surya said, "I wish to bring to your attention the unfortunate disruptions and inappropriate conduct that occurred during the meeting of the joint parliamentary committee on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, held on October 14, 2024.
