Saturday, August 24, 2024 Ontario International Airport in Southern California is set to receive $4 million from the Federal Aviation Administration to enhance its infrastructure. The FAA, on August 9, declared a national disbursement of $636 million to various airports as part of its 2024 Airport Improvement Program. The funds allocated to ONT, amounting to $4,090,060, are earmarked for crucial runway and taxiway upgrades.

“We are deeply grateful for our partnership with the FAA, along with the unwavering support of Congressional leaders in Washington, D.C., for providing the critical funding needed to enhance our runways, taxiways and infrastructure.



Together, we are committed to creating the safest possible experience for our travelers and air carriers across the U.S., ” said Atif Elkadi, Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario International Airport Authority.

The investment arrives as Ontario International maintains its industry-leading performance, situated in one of America’s most vibrant economic and demographic hubs. This year, ONT is projected to surpass 7 million passengers, marking a 75% increase since its reversion to local control in 2016. Additionally, ONT is recognized as one of the top 10 cargo airports in the U.

S. At the national level, the Airport Improvement Program allocates funding for diverse initiatives, including planning, enhancing airport safety, developing airport infrastructure, and improving noise compatibility at airports. “This $636 million investment helps airports across the Nation sustain and improve critical infrastructure to advance the safest, most efficient airport system in the world,” said FAA Associate Administrator for Airports Shannetta R.

Griffin. The Ontario International Airport Authority (OIAA) was established in August 2012 through a Joint Powers Agreement involving the City of Ontario and the County of San Bernardino. Its purpose is to oversee the management, operations, development, and promotion of Ontario International Airport (ONT), aiming to support the Southern California economy and serve the population of the airport’s four-county service region.
