The team that traded Lou Brock had to witness yet another milestone by the St. Louis Cardinals legend. On this day 45 years ago, Brock singled twice in the first four innings to become the 14th player in Major League Baseball history to amass 3,000 hits.

” Following his line drive single off Dennis Lamp’s right hand, Brock received a standing ovation from the 45,000 fans in attendance and was greeted by the first Cardinal to reach the milestone (in 1958), Stan Musial. Brock broke into the majors with the Cubs in 1961. The former Southern University star was traded to the Cardinals in 1964.
