Local media reported on Wednesday, 7 August, that 28 year old Thomas Craig, a member of the Australian hockey team, was allegedly caught attempting to buy cocaine on the streets of Paris, and has since been taken into custody. In a statement, the officials shared: "The Australian Olympic Committee has confirmed an Australian hockey team member is in custody after being arrested in Paris on August 6th.

" They added: "No charges have been laid. The AOC is continuing to make enquiries and arrange support for the team member." Craig was part of the Aussie squad that clinched a silver medal at the postponed Tokyo 2020 games.

- he also bagged a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2018. Australia's dreams at the men's hockey tournament were dashed earlier this week by the Netherlands, who smoothly sailed into a 2-0 victory, knocking the Aussies out of the game, reports the Mirror . This win allowed the Netherlands to progress further in the tournament and served as a sweet revenge against Australia, following their defeat in the same match-up during the Tokyo games.

Despite a disappointing Olympics campaign where Australia faced losses against Belgium, India and the Netherlands, Hockey Australia's chief executive David Pryles has praised the team's "incredible culture and values". In a post on X, he wrote: "Incredible group of athletes and staff we have. With the right people, culture and values, you can accomplish great things.

There's only upside from here." Please check back regularly for the latest on this developing story as it is updated in real time here . From inside celeb homes to weddings, fashion and beauty, get the latest on the stories that matter to you by following OK! every time you see our name.
