This year’s Olympics 2024 Opening Ceremony has been slammed by outraged viewers – including Tesla CEO Elon Musk – who branded it as ‘extremely disrespectful’ to Christians. As the 33rd Olympic Games kicked off in Paris , France last night, the Opening Ceremony was overseen by Artistic Director Thomas Jolly, who pulled out all the stops in welcoming the event back into the city. The explosive – if rain-sodden – celebration included a show-stopping (or starting) performances from the likes of Celine Dion , Lady Gaga and heavy-metal band Gojira, and appearances from the likes of, uh, American rapper Snoop Dogg too .

Meanwhile, sporting icons Zinedine Zidane, Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal joined the procession to participate in the Olympic torch relay. More controversially, the opening event also saw a portrayal of Leonardo DaVinci’s Last Supper – featuring a diverse line-up which included several drag artists among those dining at the iconic table. This drew the ire of several commentators online, who likened the display of celebration and inclusivity to something out of ‘Sodom and Gomorrah.

’ The portrayal of the scene came under fire as it aired, with Elon Musk commenting via X: ‘This was extremely disrespectful to Christians.’ Meanwhile, professional boxer Ryan Garcia also shared his thoughts, writing on Instagram: ‘The Olympics needs to be boycotted now. You can’t disrespect religion in front of millions.

This ain’t right no one watch.’ This was extremely disrespectful to Christians OLYMPIC PERVERTS: The opening ceremony of the Paris games features drag queens mocking “The Last Supper” a bearded dude in a dress, a decapitated head singing a song and a Smurf wearing a thong. Even the people of Sodom and Gomorrah would blush.

‘OLYMPIC PERVERTS,’ screamed American commentator Todd Starnes on X, ‘The opening ceremony of the Paris games features “The Last Supper,” a bearded dude in a dress, a decapitated head singing a song and a Smurf wearing a Thong. Even the people of Sodom and Gomorrah would blush.’ The ‘decapitated head’ in question? A nod to Marie Antoinette, the last queen prior to the French revolution, who was sentenced to death by guillotine after trial in 1973.

This came as part of the heavy-metal band Gojira’s performance (making them the first metal band to ever play at the Olympic Games), singing the French revolutionary song Ça Ira. This particular scene played out along the same river Seine embankment opposite the Conciergerie, where the queen was once held captive. ‘Headless Marie Antoinette is a brat,’ commented CNN anchor Jake Tapper on X, as the performance aired.
