These airlines will have scheduled passenger flights on the Airbus A340 in February: Conviasa, Cubana (using wet-leased Plus Ultra aircraft), Edelweiss, Iran Aseman, Kam Air, Lufthansa, Mahan Air, Plus Ultra itself, South African Airways, Surinam Airways (using wet-leased Universal Sky Carrier aircraft), and SWISS. This article excludes other operators, including charter specialists like Hi Fly Malta. Note that Syrian Arab's two A340-300s remain parked.
Flightradar24 shows that the last to fly was the 25.5-year-old YK-AZB in August 2024. Azerbaijan Airlines' two A340-500s are parked, with the world having no scheduled passenger flights on that variant.
There are some big changes to the list this year. A340 operations in February Lufthansa is the world's largest user of the A340-300 and A340-600. It has 27 of them.
Given this, it is unsurprising that it is the quadjet's leading carrier, with Cirium Diio and OAG data suggesting it'll operate approximately 40% of the type's services in February. Iran's Mahan Air is next (25%, whose fleet still includes one A340-200, alongside the -300 and -600). Afghanistan's Kam Air is joint third with SWISS (8%), followed by South African Airways (2%).
These five airlines have over eight in 10 A340 flights. Analyzing every planned service shows Lufthansa will operate 34% of the A340-300's flights, rising to about 70% for the A340-600. Conviasa, Mahan Air, and Surinam Airways also use the -600 for passenger services.
Surinam Airways has deploye.
