A new ambulance hub on the edge of Bury St Edmunds will open officially at the end of the month following a multi-million pound building project. The East of England Ambulance Service's new hub off Fortress Way in the west Suffolk town will be opened by Robert Rous, Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Suffolk, on Friday, September 27, with the planting of a tree. The new 2,900msq hub at Suffolk Park has been "purpose built to meet the demands of a modern ambulance service" and the trust says it has a "strong focus on staff wellbeing".
It is big enough for 33 ambulances with a fully integrated vehicle repair workshop and vehicle preparation area. It also includes welfare spaces like a quiet room, multi-faith room, nursing room and a gym. The facility has been designed to support the Trust’s net zero carbon ambition, making it the most sustainable and lowest carbon site in the Trust’s estate.
It is installed with smart technologies including over 1,000msq of photo-voltaic panels, with the aim that a significant proportion of the expected energy demand will be met through the renewable energy generated on site..
