Nadya Suleman, the American woman dubbed 'Octomum' after she gave birth to the first surviving octuplets in 2009, is now a grandmother. Suleman, 49, shared the happy news on Instagram in a post featuring a photo showing a tiny baby foot under a pink blanket. "Thank you my son and my lovely daughter in law for giving us this beautiful gift!" she wrote alongside the photo.

At the time she was already mum to six children – Amerah, Calyssa, Elijah, Caleb, Joshua and Aidan before welcoming her octuplets named Noah, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Jonah, Josiah, Makai, Maliyah and Nariyah, all of whom are now 15. In 2009 Suleman requested all remaining embryos be transferred into her uterus at one time, a departure from standard practice which would typically see three implanted. The doctor's medical license was revoked by the Medical Board of California in 2011. Suleman became a media sensation and the target of negative commentary about her choice. She appeared on Oprah to try and explain her choices.

Suleman struggled to make ends meet raising here large brood, agreeing to controversial endorsements and at one time a reality show in an attempt to earn enough for her family. She stepped away from the spotlight in 2013 to focus on her children, sharing family photos on social media. Suleman shared a post which read: "I am so proud of the man you are becoming. You are smart, funny, hard working, loyal, humble, and now a devoted husband and soon to be father." An early post shared photos and a video of the family celebrating her 49th birthday on July 11.

"Thank you kids for making my birthday yesterday so special! I love you all ❤️," she captioned the post. Her octuplets marked their 15th birthday on January 27. This time, Suleman shared a throwback photo along with the caption: "I'm so proud of the young adults you are growing into.

" In 2023 Suleman shared she was struggling with the impact of carrying her pregnancies. "As a repercussion of the pregnancy, I sustained three herniated discs, bilateral sciatica, damaged sacrum and peripheral neuropathy," Suleman explained in a lengthy Instagram post to her 250,000 followers. She revealed the only way to maintain her strength and mobility since the birth is her rigorous weight training routine.

"The more active I am, the less pain I experience," she revealed. "Several days without weight training exacerbates my already excruciating back pain and near immobility," she shared. The mum also revealed that her weight training and exercise habits have helped her stay "mentally sane" over the past few years juggling 14 kids and a busy lifestyle .

"I've been asked for years how I stay physically strong and healthy, in spite of my stressful, busy lifestyle with such a big family. Lifting weights has been my method of constructively channeling stress." And it seems lifting weights is a family affair, with Suleman sharing: "My oldest three weight train - far heavier than I, and more frequently.

Ironically, my oldest son Eli, who has been training consistently for three years, has surpassed what I've achieved in 3 and loves mocking me at the gym lol."
