October 23, 1957 – July 4, 2024 Tom was born in Kalamazoo Michigan. He spent his early life growing up in the beach town of Grand Haven Michigan. It is here he learned to ski on the snow covered sand dunes along the shores of Lake Michigan.

He visited Lake Tahoe in the early 1980s and his heart was stolen by the beauty of the area. He ended up staying so he could persue his love of skiing and be near the magic waters of the lake. Tom loved to cook and in his early days he cooked at various restaurants in SLT and later earned the reputation as a top chef at the Christianna Inn at the base of Heavenly Valley Ski Resort.

In his free time, he was skiing. Tom was a lover of nature. He discovered his true passion and talent when he learned the tools and trade of the stone.

He was extraordinary and gifted at designing and laying natural stone. His handwork is seen in a plethora of residential and commercial projects in the Tahoe basin. His legacy and stone work will forever remain behind for all to admire.

He left no stone unturned. In his free time or when the snow began to fall, he was on his skis. He was a master on steep terrain and dropping into powdery chutes.

Other times he could be found chaining cars below Meyers grade. When the sun was shining stone work consumed his days. Tom loved the mountains, lakes and ocean.

He and his longtime girlfriend Peg spent countless hours together rockhounding, beachcombing, and road-tripping in the RV. They also enjoyed wilderness lakes and hanging with their dogs. He also loved to fish, as a kid at the family cabin, which led him to other forays on the Jersey shore and the straits of Alaska.

Tom was a gentle and loving soul beneath all the tough outer skin. He was a beloved brother and a friend to many. In his heart he was a “steward” of Mother Earth and a lover of all things natural.

He possessed a great appreciation for geology, music, and the stars. He held great interest and respect for our ancestral heritage and Indian history. Blaze on dear Tom.

Thomas is preceded in death by his father Alfred W. Evans III and mother Elaine Clark Evans. He is survived by his sister Elizabeth Ayres, residing in Tucson AZ and his longtime girlfriend Peg Standridge, residing in Big Pine Canyon CA along with all his brothers and friends too numerous to mention.

A Celebration of Toms Life will be held on Saturday August 24, 2024 at 1pm at Emerald Bay Bar and Grill, SLT. Food will be available. “Over there On that mountain.

A cloud hangs And there My heart My heart My heart Hangs with it.” -Papago Poem.
