Glenn P. Barker PORTLAND – Glenn, 69, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Nov. 3, 2024, at Maine Medical Center after a short battle of complications sustained from a stroke.
Glenn was born on Sept. 22, 1955, to Marvin and Irene Barker. He was born and raised in Standish.
Glenn attended Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute, where he earned his certification to become a licensed auto mechanic. Cars were a major part of his life, so much so that his first date with his lifelong partner was at the drag races. This clearly left a lasting impression, as Glenn and Freda shared 43 years together.
Glenn opened Barker’s Auto Repair and Service in 1989 and spent 35 years ensuring the local community had safe vehicles on the road. He was known for his generosity and often bartered his skills to help customers during hard times. While he loved working on cars, everyone knew it was the people and the love he had for his customers that kept him going all these years.
Glenn was somewhat of a legend in the local area – a small business owner, avid hunter, ATV advocate, and all-around great guy. For over 30 years, he began each morning by reading the obituaries at TJ’s Sandwich Shop, “looking for his name,” and enjoying coffee with an old fashioned donut. He loved “causing hate and discontent,” as he called it, among the town, and sharing his love for his family with anyone who would listen.
Glenn was a caring and compassionate man, always willing to.
