Barbara Jean Chapman SOUTH CAROLINA – Barbara Jean (Harlow) Chapman, 83, of Tega Cay, S.C., passed into eternal life on Aug.

9, 2024. She was born June 8, 1941, in Rumford, to Christine (Chicoine) and Walter (Bud) Harlow. She was predeceased by her husband Jeffrey Clunie Chapman (2023) and her brother Steven Harlow (2013).

She is survived by her brother Billy (Ann) Harlow of Jay, daughter Allison (Steve) De Salvo, California, son Scott Chapman, South Carolina, grandson Zach De Salvo, California, sisters-in-law, Karen Gurschick, N.B. Canada and Mary-Jane Berry Il.

Barbara grew up in the town of Mexico, where she lived down the street from her high school sweetheart and future husband Jeffrey Clunie Chapman (2023). They were married in 1963 while Jeff was still attending the University of Maine. Barbara and Jeff were the love of each other’s lives, and they truly cared for and supported each other while work and retirement took them to seven different states.

They loved to travel and spend time with friends and family. Jeff passed on his love of golf to Barbara who quickly picked up the game and became an excellent golfer. Barbara created a loving and secure home for her two children whom she gave all her love and devotion.

She was a tender hearted, generous and loving person who always put the needs of her loved ones above her own. In addition to golf, she had a love for design and fabrics that she used to create beautiful quilts, purses and various pieces. Along with Jeff, Barbara enjoyed helping children in her community through the years, volunteering at various schools and churches.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed learning about the history of World War II and the Civil War. Barbara had a deep love for animals and had many dogs (Boston Terriers had an extra special place in her heart) and cats over the years and is survived by her Maine Coon cat Archie. She was a devoted and loving grandmother whose greatest joy was spending time with her grandson Zach.

Throughout her life Barbara was an example of quiet strength, integrity, warmth, humor, humility, love and character to all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Vickie Goddard who was there for Mom during the last years of her life.
