Friday, August 16, 2024 Oakland International Airport (OAK), situated in the bustling San Francisco Bay area, is enhancing passenger experiences by integrating augmented reality games into its services. This initiative, part of the Agents of Discovery Bay Area Explorer 5.0 Campaign, involves collaboration with the educational technology platform Agents of Discovery®.

The platform is renowned for enabling entities to craft their own augmented reality experiences. “The San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport team is excited to unveil this new in-terminal activity for passengers at the airport with Agents of Discovery,” says Craig Simon , Director of Aviation at the Port of Oakland. “It’s a fun new way for families to spend time at our airport while offering educational experiences for children.



” Currently active, the Bay Area Explorer 5.0 Campaign will continue through September 7. Travelers eager to participate can download the Agents of Discovery mobile app at no cost and engage in various “Missions” across participating locations.

These Missions are designed to educate players through “Challenges” that cover topics like local history, cultural insights, ecological awareness, and safety protocols, available in English, Spanish, and French. Specifically, at OAK, missions focus on aviation and environmental themes. The campaign sees participation from a diverse array of local organizations including the U.

S Fish and Wildlife’s Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge, the National Park Service’s San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, and numerous county and city parks like Santa Clara and Sacramento County Parks, along with the Oakland Zoo and BART. To join, users can download the Agents of Discovery app from Google Play or the App Store, locate Missions in their vicinity, and download them prior to their adventures. Once downloaded, these Missions require no further data or WiFi to play.

OAK is strategically located to serve the East Bay’s dense population, offering convenient access to the region’s vast business, entertainment, and tourism destinations through roadways and the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system..
