Veteran actress and honorary Oscar recipient Gena Rowlands has died reports . She was 94. Rowlands, who has been retired since 2015, passed away Wednesday afternoon at her home in Indian Wells, California where she was surrounded by family.
No official cause of death had been announced, but Rowlands had been battling Alzheimer’s disease. In her time she racked up four Emmy awards, two Golden Globes, and two Oscar nominations. She worked with her first husband, filmmaker John Cassavetes, on several iconic films including “Gloria,” “Opening Night” and “A Woman Under the Influence”.
She also had memorable turns in Woody Allen’s “Another Woman,” and son Nick Cassavetes’ massive romance hit “The Notebook”. Other notable roles included “Lonely Are the Brave,” “The Betty Ford Story,” “Hysterical Blindness,” “The Skeleton Key,” “She’s So Lovely,” “Hope Floats,” “Persepolis,” “Love Streams” and more..
