The 2 Johnnies have admitted that they don’t consider themselves famous, despite their increasing success. Johnny ‘B’ O’Brien and Johnny ‘Smacks’ McMahon have one of the most successful podcasts in the country, and have gone on to huge success after leaving their 2FM drivetime show — which included the success of their latest ‘Pints in a Field’ festival, a tour of the US and Australia, and a sell out show in the 3 Arena this December. Despite the massive success, the lads have admitted that they just lead normal lives in their native Tipperary — with Johnny B having previously worked as a hurley maker, and Johnny Smacks having worked as a butcher in SuperValu — and they’re ‘just normal lads’ in their community.
‘There is no level of fame for us here in Cahir because people just know us around the town anyway,’ Smacks told the Sunday Times. ‘Honest to God, we’ve never been on a red carpet in our lives, and we don’t hold any ambitions to go on one.’ ‘I think the carpet in the [local pub] Shamrock Lounge is red,’ Johnny B joked.
‘The one going up the stairs to the function room is red and there are a few photos of us on the wall. That means more to us than any red carpets.’ ‘We like leading normal lives and doing what we do,’ Johnny Smacks added.
