NORTHWOOD, North Dakota – Concert-goers can relive the music of their past when the Northwood Performing Arts Council presents “A Night at the Theatre – A Tribute to Queen” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 27, at the Northwood Performing Arts Center.

The concert will feature Jonny James and the Hall of Fames, a Twin Cities band whose shows have been selling out theaters all around the Cities, according to a website. Tickets, $55 plus taxes and fees, are available in advance at www.Northwoodpacnd.

org. All seats are reserved; all sales are final. Tickets will probably be available for purchase at the door too, said Judy Engen, president of the Northwood Performing Arts Council.

Before the performance, the box office in the lobby will open at 6 p.m. and doors to the auditorium open at 7 p.

m. Proceeds from this event will be used to support future performance events, said Engen, one of nine members on the council, a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to encourage and nurture the arts in its many forms. ADVERTISEMENT The concert will also appeal to younger audience members, Engen said.

Music by “Queen” is still popular, she said. “So it’s not only for generations from the past; (children and others) hear this band’s music – such as ‘We Are the Champions’ and ‘We Will Rock You’ – at sporting events ..

. (so) it’s still current.” Selection of the “Queen” tribute band was spurred, in part, by the success of the “Tribute to the Eagles – Takin’ It to the Limit” concert last year at the PAC, Engen said.

Members of the Northwood Performing Arts Council surveyed last year’s concert attendees about the kind of music they wanted to hear, “and they said ‘Queen,’” she said. “So the idea of tribute bands, and re-living music from the ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s ..

. just is a very popular thing to do (to add to the nostalgia) coming back to Northwood.” “Paying tribute to another one of the greatest British bands of all time, this tribute show offers glorious vocals with multiple singers and blazing guitar solos,” according to a release from the Northwood Performing Arts Council.

“ ‘Queen’ has rocked us over the years with their chart-topping hits and bountiful b-sides – and Jonny James and the Hall of Fames is here to keep it all alive.” The group is known for its “energy, extravagance and all the rock you can handle,” according to the announcement. The concert will feature hits including “Another Bites the Dust,” “Don’t Stop Me Now,” “Somebody to Love,” and many more.

Summertime tradition It’s a Northwood tradition to gather for the “Old Fashioned Saturday” celebration in late July. The event features many activities and people with ties to the community return for class reunions and family reunions, Engen said. “It’s a really good time for people to gather in Northwood, because (they) come back here to see their families, obviously, but also to reunite with classmates.

There’s a lot to do and a lot of food options; there’s just a lot of excitement in the air,” Engen said. “It’s a great time to plan on coming back to Northwood every year that fourth Saturday in July.” ADVERTISEMENT And, since 2021, the 406-seat Northwood PAC has become an important draw.

“People are surprised that we have such a beautiful facility in our small community,” Engen said. Because of the curved layout of the seating, “every seat is a great seat.” Pictures of the Northwood Performing Arts Center are available for viewing at www.
