NEW SALEM — The Pioneer Valley Brass Quintet has scheduled a free concert for Sunday, July 28, at 2 p.m. at the Swift River Valley Historical Society, located at 40 Elm St.
The concert is sponsored by the First Universalist Parish of North Dana and is the 809th such program since the parish was forced to leave North Dana for the 1938 creation of the Quabbin Reservoir. The July 28 program will include “Fanfare for the Common Cold” by P.D.
Q. Bach, “Toccata” by Giovanni Battista Martini, “La Califfa” by Ennio Morricone, “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” by Lennon & McCartney, “Hiplips II” by Leslie Pearson, “The Royal Garden Blues” arranged by Jack Gale, and “America the Beautiful” arranged by Jari Villanueva. The program, however, is always subject to change.
The Pioneer Valley Brass Quintet was formed by Cedric and Jerry Bannister in the 1980s. The current members are Dick Tandy and Steve Babineau on trumpet, Tabitha Greenlees on horn, Dana Tandy on trombone and Susan Lemei on tuba. ORANGE — Local jazz combo Legacy is slated to return to the Orange Historical Society on Sunday, Aug.
4, to contribute its annual summertime performance of jazz standards for the society’s “Music on the Porch” program. The event will run from 2 to 4 p.m.
and will replace normally scheduled guided tours for that day. Complimentary refreshments will be served. Drummer Marty Picard leads the band while song stylist Linda Piragas sings, backed also by Mark Erwin on elect.
