Norland College is thrilled to be hosting events in Bath as part of this year’s international Sustainable Fashion Week (SFW). The community-led project, running from Monday to Sunday, 29th September, focuses on the importance of sustainability in the garment industry, with an emphasis on the 'power of repair'. The week-long programme includes events across the UK and internationally, organised around the themes of re-wear, regenerate, repurpose, and reconnect.
Norland’s contributions include workshops for all ages to share skills and ideas for mending and embellishing clothes, a clothes swap supported by a sustainable stylist, and a discussion on building an environmentally conscious wardrobe. Sustainability has long been woven into Norland’s curriculum, particularly through sewing, which has been a core part of its training for over 132 years. The Bath Hub aims to inspire families and children to adopt sustainable activities.
Norland’s involvement in SFW 2024 is led by sewing lecturers Kate Jaeger and Jo Price, in partnership with local businesses Mark Pickles Sewing Studio and Mr B’s Emporium of Reading Delights. Proceeds from the events will support sustainability-focused charities Fashion Revolution and Labour Behind the Label. Jaeger expressed excitement about hosting the event: "Norland’s commitment to community engagement and sustainability is central to our mission, and hosting the Bath Hub for SFW 2024 is a perfect opportunity for us to further these valu.
