Pune: The MSRDC is expecting state govt approval for five contractors to start construction of the city's ring road project by the end of Oct, ahead of the announcement of the assembly election. A senior Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) official told TOI on Wednesday that construction is slated to begin later this month, with project completion targeted for May 2027 — 30 months from the commencement of work. The official added, "We recently appointed five contractors for the process and once govt gives us the administrative approval, we can issue a letter of acceptance to the contractors to commence work.
We are expecting that work will start after Oct 20. Govt is expected to give us a go-ahead this week or early next week." Over 80% of required land has already been acquired for the project, which is split into eastern and western phases.
Officials clarified that almost 90% land acquisition is finished for the western phase, while more than 70% land acquisition is complete for the eastern phase. Over Rs9,000 crore had been allocated for the land acquisition process. Once complete, the 136km outer ring road will help decongest Pune city areas by redirecting heavy vehicles and enhancing connectivity with inter-district highways.
The road will cover 83 villages. State govt had taken a loan of Rs35,000 crore from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd (HUDCO) for the project, which was cleared back in 2015. The western corridor of the Pune Ring.
