National Highways has "no plans" to reduce the speed limit on the Orwell Bridge as strong winds hit the county. The speed limit on the A14 route, south of Ipswich, is sometimes reduced during high winds. Suffolk is braced for strong winds on Friday as Storm Lilian arrives.

A spokeswoman for National Highways said: "We currently have no plans to reduce the speed limits on the Orwell Bridge, however we will monitor the situation closely and action if required." It comes as strong winds are expected to batter the county this morning . The Met Office has confirmed that Storm Lilian will hit the region on Friday morning, bringing category nine gales.



Strong winds are expected to hit coastal areas - with Felixstowe, Southwold, Aldeburgh and Lowestoft bracing for wind speeds of up to 50mph. The gales are expected to be at their strongest between 7am and 11am..
