A JAPANESE automaker announces its last sedan won't be produced after 2024 - leaving only five choices for Americans in 2025. The brand says the lineup will consist of only SUVs until a new EV is unveiled. Infiniti, the luxury division of Nissan , has officially announced the Q50 sedan will no longer be produced after the 2024 model year.

Once the sedan is off the production line, the brand will only sell three crossovers - the QX50, QX55, and the QX60. The QX80, a full-sized SUV, will be the only one available to buyers. Currently, the Q50 can come with a gas engine or a hybridized configuration.



Read More about Nissan Until the brand's first EV is on dealer lots, the brand plans to sell solely SUVs and crossovers. The Q50 is Infiniti's sportier version of the Nissan Altima. Some have compared it to the discontinued Nissan Skyline, due to its sleek, sporty yet practical nature.

However, as Car & Driver reported , the lineup may not be sedan-less forever. Most read in Motors Last year, Infiniti unveiled the Vision Qe concept, which was an all-electric sporty sedan. Alfonso Albaisa, the Senior Vice President, told the outlet the sedan is inspired by the Japanese "Sho" expression, which "invokes the powerful but graceful flight of an elegant bird.

" The outlet suspected the concept may be built alongside a new Nissan EV sedan in Mississippi. And both could be hitting the market in 2026. The news follows closely behind other automaker announcements of the sedan vanishing in the shadow of SUVs and crossovers.

Subaru recently announced their AWD sedan, the Legacy, would no longer be produced after 2024. Ford also discontinued the Fusion sedan in 2023, despite its popularity for both the gas-powered and hybridized variants. According to Motor1, there are 20 cars that won't make it to the 2025 model year, including sedans, some SUVs, and sports cars.

Kia also discontinued the sporty Stinger sedan for 2023. Chevrolet put the Malibu on the chopping block even though it was popular due to its affordability.

Like other manufacturers, Chevy cited the need to focus on EVs, hybrids, SUVs, and trucks.
